FEED THE GODS

A member of an isolated healer-tribe goes missing from their sacred canyons as a looming threat emerges on the horizon: pale-skinned invaders hunting for silver and slaves.

Gabriel N Elizondo

Culture Theorist | Writer

A fifth generation Mescalero Ndé and fourth generation Rarámuri descendent from the North American Desert Southwest, Gabriel is a culture theorist, published author, poet, and literary critic with a focus on Native American, indigenous, and tribal experiences in the Americas.

His expertise in power dynamics, institutions, and representation have led to a fundamental mission of empowering indigenous cultures in reclaiming their narratives from colonial institutions.

From the caliche clays and honey mesquite flatlands of his early childhood to a former corporate career of executive suites in New York City and Chicago, his experience of American society has informed him of the inequities constructed throughout its history.

“The research and insights shared about cultures and people that are underrepresented was incredible and heartbreaking. The layers of social commentary, history, mythology, religion, ceremony, and horror kept me hooked… An incredible story and literary journey!”

A Heritage of the Desert Southwest

Gabriel's heritage reaches back into the lands of desert arroyos, sage brush, mesquite fields, and canyons for generations. His family lineage has been rooted in the lands of the American Desert Southwest since the 17th century. Across the Mescalero territories of New Mexico and the northern Mexican mile-deep canyons of the Rarámuri people, a rich cultural history has survived in his work.

His lived experience of the people, tribes, ceremonies, and family traditions serves as an anchor for the indigenous stories he tells.

Culture Studies and Accurate Representation

As a dedicated culture theorist, Gabriel's professional expertise studies power dynamics, cultural institutions, and individual identity as it's shaped from soceital behavior.

Throughout his studies he has collected several cultural artifacts as examples of how indigenous narratives and identities are erased, rewritten, and exploited for colonial gain.

It is this expertise that led to six years of researching indigienous tribes, languages, rituals, region, flora, fauna, and history of Spanish imperialism to ensure accurate representation throughout FEED THE GODS.

The most relevant cultural elements in the text are cited with footnotes that contextualize their place in tribal history and tribal identity. Readers receive more than an incredible story, they are given an accurate immersion into the history of the people on the page.
