A Few Words From the Author
I’ll keep this short so you can get back to reading. I spent five years carefully researching every aspect of the cultures represented in this book to accurately represent the people, the history, the heritage, the language, the traditions, and the contributions our ancestors have given to the world.
While some details have been modified to accompany the story and characters, the very core of the tribal practices and representations remain historically accurate. I did sneak in a few historical figures into the story (I’ll let you find them as you go along) for the pre-colonial history nerds.
Though this book takes place in 1567, many of the tribal descendants still experience an array of oppression by governmental authorities, exploitation by drug cartels, forced labor by corporate entities, and a continuous fight to preserve their ancestral traditions.
It is important to recognize, acknowledge, and do what we can to maintain the stories of our ancestors, not only for the future, but to overcome the storm that is colonization.
